Yay! We managed to go for a drive, have lunch out and a walk in the park.

What DSLR did she get? I imagine it is some Canon body so that you can share lenses.

Yep, Canon 1000d. Lovely, simple, inexpensive and a nice entry level for a DSLR beginner.
